Don't Neglect Salvation
According to the Hebrew writer, our sins will always result in punishment. The writer states, "every transgression and disobedience received a just reward" (Hebrews 2:2). All of us want justice and appreciate it when someone is punished for doing something wrong that hurts us. Yet, we must also remember that God knows our own mistakes and will, if we're not penitent, punish us as well.
Since this is so serious, the inspired writer then counsels us to take advantage of the salvation offered by God. "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation," asks the writer (Hebrews 2:3). The answer is obvious. We will never be successful in escaping the punishment of God unless we accept Him, His power, and His truth. The scary thing is that each of us have likely neglected salvation at some point in our lives. Doing so is very unwise and incredibly dangerous.
As we begin a new week, let us do whatever is necessary to examine ourselves to see whether or not we're currently neglecting the great salvation of God. If you're not a Christian, you cannot escape unless you accept God's plan of salvation as your only source of hope. You need to believe in Jesus, repent of your sins, and be baptized to begin a new life in service to God. If you are already a Christian but living in sin, the only source of escape is that same God of salvation. Our Father has promised us that, if we confess our sins to Him, He is "faithful and just" to forgive us (I John 1:9).
All of us want to go to heaven. Each of us appreciate how great salvation is. Yet, from time to time, we find ourselves neglecting that great salvation. Let us resolve to never do so again and to always do our very best to serve our wonderful and loving God in heaven.
