It Requires Faith in God's Power!
The apostle Paul writes that our "faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God" (I Corinthians 2:5.) Indeed, Paul makes a true statement. There are any number of things that you and I believe and consequently teach others that are not "accepted" by men and men-based wisdom. Yet, our job is not to be men-pleasers or seek the most popular worldly ideas. Our goal, instead, is to rely on God, His word, and His truths. Each time we do, things make a whole lot more sense. Consider these three topics and the importance of faith in fully appreciating them.
The Suspension of Nature
The Bible is filled with numerous accounts of nature's laws being suspended by God's power. Creation itself is impossible to really comprehend unless one believes what God has recorded for us. In Genesis 1:1, the text simply states that, "in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Countless scientists have tried to explain alternatives to this account but have a difficult job doing so and their job is more difficult than ours! Moses parted the Red Sea in Exodus 14 and the sun stood still for many hours in Joshua 10. Each of these occasions are ones wherein the laws of nature are voided by the Creator Himself. This requires faith in God's power.
The Inspiration of the Bible
God's word is a great blessing to us as it guides and teaches us. Yet, in order for one to really read it and be willing to apply its teachings, then one must also be willing to accept that it's truly inspired by God. The fact is there are NO mistakes in the Bible. Every aspect of the Bible that was once thought to be incorrect is now known to be correct. This great collection of letters, poems, and historical accounts never contradicts itself and despite being written over a span of some 1,500 years in multiple languages and being written by some 40 different men, the Bible is one clear message. As simple men, we might have trouble explaining this. But with faith in God's power, it makes perfect sense.
Hell and Heaven
The world might teach that there's no hell and no heaven. We've never seen either and there are no pictures of hell or heaven. And let's face it, believing that hell is not real takes away the threat of the horrible place. The Bible, however, speaks about the existence of both as real places. Paul said that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God and John wrote about the wonders of heaven and the horrors of hell (I Corinthians 6:9-10; Revelation 21:2-8). At no time in the scriptures are the discussion of these two topics of a figurative nature.
Without any doubt, trusting in God is the way to go! His power is immense and His love is something in which we can be completely and fully confident. Though pleasing God requires our faith, it's well worth it as we make it our aim to please Him and then spend our eternities with Him.
