"The Bible Is the Only Authority"
In conversations with friends and neighbors, you will hear them say "Well, my preacher said this, it must be true..." Let me assure you as a preacher, do not take my word for it. What you should do is take the Bible's word for it, and not any man!
According to verses such as II Timothy 3:16,17, II Peter 1:3 and Jude 3, the Gospel was only delivered once (through the pens of 40 some authors), and that which was delivered was inspired by God and is sufficient for all I need to know spiritually.
Friends, the Bible reminds us that "Our faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God" (I Corinthians 2:5). Man's ways will always end in destruction (Proverbs 14:12).
Society as a whole has gotten used to listening to sermons and Bible classes void of any scripture, void of any negativity and full of personal stories, quips and quotes. While it is nice to hear those stories from time to time, they will neither save my soul or yours. What will save my soul is the Gospel (I Corinthians 15:1,2). The "engrafted word" will save me from my sins (James 1:21), not one-liners and clichés.
Neighbors, if there is one mark I could leave on civilization, it would be that all would take their Bibles alone and read and study them. Furthermore, I would plead with you to take those same Bibles and measure what "your" preacher says against it. If there is a difference, let me assure you the Bible is not the one in the wrong!
It is my responsibility to question any who will teach; it is yours as well (I John 4:1). I would love for you to question my teaching, perhaps even sit down together and have a study about it.
I have one favor to ask of all who are reading this now. The next time you hear a preacher suggest something that the Bible teaches, get your Bible out and make sure it does. Do not let another man and his teaching lead you down a path of destruction. Take control of your life and its eternal destination.
